6 Ways To Maximize Marketing Power
This article explains how to get the most marketing impact from anything you write. Done right, you will get more attention than you think. Here are the specific things you must do every time you add a new page to your site:
1. Filename: Name your file name strategically. Name it the search term. Avoid dead end generic names like contact_us.html. Google will not list it no matter what is on it. If you want to be found, name it EXACTLY what you expect people to search on. Note: If you want to take it one step further, register the dot com, dot net, or dot org domain name and put your page there. Nothing beats a branded domain name.
2. The Link: Link to your new page with linked text. Don't link to it with an image like a button, or generic words like click here. For marketing power link to your new page with text that includes your search term. Google crawls through that link. They give BIG points for search terms in linked text. The words you link with matter.
3. Title Tag: Take time to write a specific page title that includes your search term. The page title appears on the top of the browser window (and when you set a favorite). It's in the head section of html between the title tags. Make sure it's unique, matches the search term, and aligns with the filename.
4. Meta Description Tag: Take time to write a specific meta-description about what is on the page. Make sure it includes the search term. Meta-keyword tags don't matter. Meta-description tags do. Meta-description tags are what Google uses in their search results. It's what people see when you come up in a search. It's your advertising message. Make sure it compels people to click and read more.
5. The Page: Make sure the elements on the page center around the search term. The text, headline, image file name, and image alt tag should all include variations of your subject. The idea is to convince Google that you are an authority on this subject. Be specific. Everything on the page should be about the search term.
6. Google: Let them know your new page is there. If you don't have a Google Webmaster account (google.com/webmasters), create one. Create and upload Google sitemap (www.xml-sitemaps.com) to let Google know that your site has changed and your new page exists. If you want your page indexed, it helps to let them know.
The consensus is that it's hard to get into Google. That's not true. Google is crying out for original information on specific subjects. If you write it, and wrap it with this treatment, Google will display it prominently and you will get users. Most people don't do these things. That's our edge. We do.
