You've got a powerful tool in your business that is bought and paid for and probably not being used. This tool holds the power to help everyone to work more efficiently. It also holds the power to bind people together into a cohesive unit.

This underutilized tool is the home button on your web browser. The home button represents a "Go to Main Menu" button at the top of your browser at all times. No matter where you are on the Internet, in one click of the mouse, you are at the home page of your choosing.

The home page of your browser (the page that first comes up when you start your browser) needs to be set with careful forethought by the company, not the individual. That opening page should be contain all the functions and links the organization needs to work more effectively.

If you walked through your organization you would probably find everyone's home page set to something different - like stock quotes, MSN, Yahoo, etc. - all based on personal preference. The choice of home page should be based on sound business practices. Take advantage of this tool. Instruct your employees start their day on the same page. Then start thinking about the links you put on that page. The home button is a valuable resource. Use it to your greatest advantage.
