Tips and Tricks: Snail Mail Spam Filter

Snail Mail Spam Filter

On the Internet we watch out for clients. We are constantly on guard against scammers. We use a firewall, spam filtering, and any other measure we can think up. On the Internet as in life, defense wins.

There is spam in the "real" world too. One of the biggest offenders are credit card companies, banks, and lenders that send pre-approved offers of credit to us daily in the mail. More than just a nuisance, these offers can be dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands.

According to Cnn.com you can OPT OUT of these mailings for 5 years or forever. To opt out of credit related mailings follow these steps:

1. Go to Optoutprescreen.com
2. Click the Blue "Opt Out" button at the bottom of the page
3. Select "Permanent Opt Out"
4. Fill in the form and Press Confirm
5. Print the form, sign it, and mail it back to them.

Note: Because we are talking credit bureaus, you will have to provide your Social Security number. You can also opt back in if you want. If you don't have a computer you can call 888-5optout.

The Internet Man is constantly on guard against nefarious characters. Defensive thinking comes naturally to us.
