Internet Usage by Region
You might think the United States is the most "wired" country in the world but you'd be wrong. It's Sweden. In Sweden 65 percent of the homes are connected to the Internet. In Canada 60 percent of the homes are connected. In the United States 59 percent of our homes are connected.
In 2005 the Internet population surpassed one billion users. It is comprised of over 220 countries. Originally the United States was the heaviest user, but that is changing too. The percentage of Internet usage by region, ranked by percentage, looks like this:
Asia = 36 percent
Europe = 28 percent
North American = 22 percent
Latin American = 8 percent
Africa = 2 percent
Middle East = 2 percent
Australia = 2 percent
In their book "The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding" Al and Laura Ries explain the Internet will cause the world to function as a global village. The opportunity for American businesses to expand into foreign markets is awesome. They explain it this way, "If you're a business person in America, where does the real opportunity lie? In the domestic market or in the 95 percent of the world that doesn't live in one of the fifty states?"
The Internet has worldwide reach. Concentrate on it and the huge market it represents. The Internet is expanding like wildfire all around the world. This is the time to act - buy domain names, brand products and services, and expand into foreign markets.
