Tips and Tricks: Search Term Domain Names

Search Term Domain Names

Most of the time people pick a Web site name and then try to get people to come to it. A better approach is to pick a name that has traffic built in. When you put up your site, the traffic is already there.

It sounds simple and it is. Here's how you do it:

1. Go to adwords.google.com/select/keywordtoolexternal (note: no www).

2. Type in what you sell or offer and click Get Keyword Ideas.

3. Find a search term with a minimum of 1,000 searches per month.

4. Go to Go Daddy and buy the dot com domain name.

A lot of heavily used search terms are taken so you've got to look around. If you work at it you should be able to find a name meeting these three criteria:

1. The domain name is a dot com name.

2. It matches the search term exactly (letter for letter).

3. The search term gets more than 1,000 searches per month.

Your total investment so far: about $10.

If you don't think this works consider this. We own the domain SalesSystem.com. That term gets 18,000 searches per month. Our little site, SalesSystem.com is number two at Google. This means that 18,000 people per month view a page where our link is number two. This is a verifiable fact.

You put time and effort into your Web site. Why not put where people will see it? This isn't hard to do. All it takes is an open mind. If you don't have the time, call us. We'll do it for you.
