Spyware Removal
Spyware is software that invades your computer to advertise, collect information, or change the configuration. You have spyware if your computer:
- Pops up advertisements when you're not on the Web.
- Opens your Web browser to a page you did not choose.
- Creates a toolbar you don't want and cannot get rid of.
- Takes longer than usual to complete simple tasks and seems sluggish.
- There is a sudden rise in computer crashes.
Spyware (also called adware) is reaching epidemic proportions. Some estimates are as high as 65 percent of all personal computers are infected with some type of Spyware. Keeping your computer free of these pests is not easy (obviously since over half are infected). Still there are steps to cut down the risk of a spyware infection such as:
1. Regularly patching your operating system using Windows Update (critical patches).
2. Increasing the security setting in your Web browser and turning off Active X.
3. Using caution when you download.
4. Installing a firewall.
5. Installing a spyware removal tool.
Microsoft is finally addressing the problem. They have purchased and re-branded Giant Company's Anti-Spyware program and are now distributing the Microsoft Windows Anti-spyware (beta) program for users of Windows 2000, XP and later. Also they have developed a Spyware section on Microsoft.com that we found to be excellent.
If you're jammed up with Spyware we highly recommend it!
FYI: Better Anti-Spyware program available at pctools.com
